Fins Under Threat!

Did you know that there are more than 465 known species of sharks living in our oceans today? Sharks are apex predators at the top of the marine food chains, and they play a vital role in regulating the populations of species below them. If sharks were to disappear, it would be bad news for all of us, and that’s why we encourage children to learn more about these big, beautiful fish.

In our KS3 classroom session, your pupils will be able to take part in discussions on how natural and manmade disasters can affect shark populations, what other threats shark species are facing and how these threats can impact not just sharks’ ecosystems but the environment as a whole.

We believe that students learn best through sensory engagement – that’s why we’ll be offering them the opportunity to closely examine various artefacts, including sharks teeth and jaws, in order to improve their understanding of shark biology and behaviours when it comes to hunting.

In our Key Stage 3 classroom session, your pupils will learn through:

  • Interactive activities
  • A class discussion
  • Animal demonstration
  • A Q&A session

Your pupils will walk out of the session with a better understanding of:

  • How marine animals live and adapt to their surroundings
  • The main factors that contribute to the decline of shark populations in the wild
  • What we can all do to help save sharks
