With the half term holidays fast approaching, there\u2019s no shortage of ways you can keep the whole family entertained \u2013 but it\u2019s nice to have a little bit of inspiration to get you started! After all, it can feel a little overwhelming trying to keep the children occupied during their break from school, not to mention trying to get everyone to agree. So with that in mind, we\u2019ve put together some great ideas of how you can spend the May half term right here in Cheshire.<\/p>\n

Visit an aquarium<\/h2>\n

There\u2019s no denying it, a day out at our very own Blue Planet Aquarium is the perfect way to entertain families of all ages. Not only are we home to one of Europe\u2019s largest collection of sharks, but we\u2019re also really putting them in the spotlight this half term. Our Shark Week event<\/a> is running during the half term, giving you the chance so see some of the most fascinating species up close, like the blacktip reef shark, zebra shark and nurse shark.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re home to a huge variety of interesting creatures, including fish, amphibians, reptiles and more, so there\u2019s bound to something to entertain everyone from the grandparents to the toddlers! Book your tickets<\/a> here.<\/p>\n

Take a look around Beeston Castle<\/h2>\n

Beeston has been an important settlement since prehistoric times, and the castle itself is one of the greatest example of medieval castles in England. You can also see a replica of a Bronze Age roundhouse here, from when Beeston took on its role as an important metalworking centre.<\/p>\n

The castle itself was built in the 13th<\/sup> century and was known as the Castle on the Rock. Walking through the grounds you can learn all about its fascinating history and the role it played during the medieval period.<\/p>\n

Experience the Anderton boat lift<\/h2>\n

The Anderton boat lift is known as one of the seven wonders of the waterways. It lifts barges 50ft up from the River Weaver Navigation to the Trent and Mersey Canal, with an ingenious system. Take a boat trip and experience the lift for yourself, with the trip taking around an hour to complete.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a truly unique way to spend some time in Cheshire, and will amaze your kids as they watch the lift in action.<\/p>\n

Witness Chester\u2019s Roman history<\/h2>\n

Chester\u2019s city centre is a little different to your typical city, as there\u2019s still a big Roman presence here. Chester is the only city in the country that still has the full circuit of its city walls, which are the also the oldest and longest in Britain. You can walk along them and see great views over the city.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, you can also walk through Roman gardens and view the amphitheatre in all its glory. It\u2019s a spectacular insight into the history of this part of the country, and the lasting impact that it\u2019s left.<\/p>\n

Play in Grosvenor Park<\/h2>\n

If the weather holds out in time for May half term, you\u2019ll no doubt be looking for a little bit of fresh air and sunshine to fill your week. Grosvenor Park is a grade II registered park that dates back to Victorian times. It overlooks the River Dee, and is home to an open theatre during the warmer months.<\/p>\n

To keep the kids even more engaged, you\u2019ll find a great play area in the park, not to mention a miniature railway!<\/p>\n
