As the apex predator, they\u2019re at the top of the food chain and eat almost anything, although many feed mostly on smaller sea creatures. They protect themselves by living in anemones, which release a toxic substance from their tentacles when any other sea creature touches it. Clownfish have developed an immunity to these toxins since they have a layer of protective mucus covering their bodies. This means they can pass through the tentacles without injury, allowing them to protect themselves from other fish within these habitats.
