{"id":3052,"date":"2016-07-21T08:51:32","date_gmt":"2016-07-21T08:51:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.smugglersadventure.co.uk\/?p=3052"},"modified":"2024-04-22T09:11:05","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T08:11:05","slug":"torchlight-tour-new-date-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neuronicdev.es\/smugglers\/events\/torchlight-tour-new-date-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Torchlight Tour &#8211; New date announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Smugglers Adventure has confirmed the date of its latest additional Torchlight Tour event \u2013 Saturday, August 13<sup>th<\/sup>.<br \/>\nThe subterranean after dark tours through the West Hill attraction have proved so popular with the public that organisers have had to add three extra dates so far this year.<br \/>\nThe tours, which run from <span data-term=\"goog_830260953\">5pm-6.30pm<\/span> and must be booked in advance, offer a spooky and highly atmospheric insight into the history of the underground tunnels; including their use as a military hospital for Wellington\u2019s troops during the Napoleonic Wars and as an air-raid shelter in World War II.<br \/>\n\u201cThis will be the fourth Torchlight Tour event to be held so far this year and their popularity has been overwhelming,\u201d said Smugglers Adventure\u2019s Leanna Lawson.<br \/>\n\u201cEach tour is unique with those taking part becoming an integral part of the overall experience.<br \/>\n\u201cLast month we had a lady who had sheltered in the caves during World War II, a gentleman who had played in band there and another person who had attended an underground disco!\u201d she added.<br \/>\nA maximum of 25 people are taken on a dramatic exploration of the caves, which cover a total area in excess of five square kilometres, in the company of an expert guide whose flickering lantern provides the only illumination.<br \/>\nThe tour begins in the 45-metre long Monk\u2019s Walk with its 23 pairs of arched candle niches.<br \/>\nVisitors learn all about the bizarre re-discovery of the caves by the Victorian Joseph Golding and the geology which enabled them to form in the first place.<br \/>\nFrom mysterious carved figures to the spectacular ballroom, royal visits to ghostly apparitions, the torchlight tours offer the perfect combination of thrills and chills.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The next available tour is on Saturday, August 13<sup>th<\/sup> at 5pm-.<span data-term=\"goog_830260955\">6.30pm<\/span>. Tickets \u00a39.50 per person (participants must be aged 12 or over). Only 25 spaces available.
