I saw Tiger Shovelnose Catfish and Tiger Shovelnose Catfish saw man!

Tiger Shovelnose Catfish is native to the Amazon and Rio Orinoco basins. However recently more have been collected in Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, French Guiana, Peru and Brazil. They prefer deep rivers where they find the deepest points and sit on the bottom but can exist in lakes and swampy areas. Due to their size they are able to sit on the bottom of very fast moving rivers without the rapids pushing them downstream.

Tiger Shovelnose Catfish have a long and slender body with a beautiful silver and black coloration which makes these fish strongly stand out in the middle of the tank. The black stripes and spots covering the entirety of the body gives them a tiger-like appearance.

These Catfish like others have long whiskers that allow them to hunt in dark and murky waters which is why they prefer to hunt at night to give them an advantage. They also navigate with their protruding large mouth allowing them to feed on smaller fish and crustaceans. Unfortunately like other catfish these species are bought for home aquariums before they grow too large and need rehomed.
